Beneficial Effect of Substitution of Sesame Oil on Hepatic Redox Status and Lipid Parameters in Streptozotocin Diabetic Rats
نویسنده
چکیده
Sesame oil is being used a sole edible oil in South India. The aim of present study was to monitor the influence of sesame oil on blood glucose, and lipid peroxidation, antioxidants and lipid profile in the liver of control and streptozotocin (STZ) diabetic rats (Fifteen-week old Albino Wistar rats). Diabetes was induced in adult female albino Wistar rats weighing 180200 g by administration of STZ (40 mg/kg of body weight) intraperitonially. Both control and diabetic rats were fed with a commercial diet containing 2% oil supplemented with 6% sesame oil for 42 days. Diabetic rats had elevated levels of blood glucose (322.61 ± 9.49 mg/dL), thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS), and lipid hydroperoxides (LH) and decreased activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx). When diabetic rats fed with sesame oil, were compared with diabetic rats, a significant reduction in levels of blood glucose (222.02 ± 8.27 mg/dL), TBARS, LP, and an elevation in SOD, CAT and GPx, were observed. Thus, sesame oil consumption beneficially influences blood glucose, lipid peroxidation, antioxidants and lipid parameters in diabetic rats.

Effects of Sesame Butter (Ardeh) versus Sesame Oil on Metabolic and Oxidative Stress Markers in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Rats
Background: Diabetes is one of the most common metabolic disorders and is related to oxidative-stress-induced diseases. Given the role of dietary antioxidants in the control and prevention of diabetes, this study aimed to examine the effects of sesame butter versus sesame oil on the serum levels of glucose, lipid profile, and oxidative stress biomarkers in diabetic rats. Methods: Forty male albi...
متن کاملEffect of Butter and Sesame Oils on Avoidance Memory of Diabetic Rats
OBJECTIVE: Diabetes is a metabolic disorder which impairs carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. It is accompanied by cognition impairment in diabetic patients and animal models. Lipids play an important role in nerve membrane composition, structure and function. This study was designed to evaluate the effect of dietary butter and sesame oils on passive avoidance memory of streptozotocin (STZ) diab...

متن کاملSesame effects on testicular damage in streptozotocin-induced diabetes rats
Objective(s): Reproductive dysfunction is a consequence of diabetes. Diabetes is associated with changes in testicular tissue. Sesame oil contains large amounts of polyunsaturated fatty acids and lignin with antioxidant activity, vitamin E, and monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA). The present study investigated the effects of sesame on testis histology and male reproductive parameters in streptoz...
